Image SEO Starts With Useful, Honest Website Photography

Choose relevant images, descriptive alternatives and reliable loading before focusing on file names. Preserve licences and label illustrative photography.

A photograph can make a page more understandable, or it can create a false impression. A stock image of a large office should not be presented as your premises, team or customer project.

Give each image a purpose

Use a genuine project screenshot to explain a delivered interface, a diagram to explain a process or relevant photography to establish context. Avoid claiming that a decorative image proves a technical result. Keep source and permission records for assets used in business content.

Write alternatives for the actual image

Describe the meaningful visual information where an image is informative. Decorative images can have empty alternatives. Repeating the page's full keyword phrase in every alt attribute does not explain what a person would see.

  • Provide suitable dimensions and responsive variants.
  • Avoid stretching small images into large banners.
  • Keep the important subject visible on mobile.
  • Use native lazy loading appropriately below the fold.
  • Retain required attribution and licence details.

Check the published result

A correctly named file can still fail to load or be cropped so severely that its useful content disappears. Inspect the real page at different widths and confirm that image URLs are accessible. Do not rely only on the media-library preview.

Keep commercial claims separate

Illustrative stock photography should not imply endorsement by the people or brands shown. Realistic visuals are valuable when they support the explanation honestly. Search visibility is only one part of the job; the image must also make sense to the customer reading the page.
