WooCommerce Product Variations: Check Price, Stock and Selection
Configure variable products around genuine customer options. Test each supported variation instead of treating the parent product as the complete setup.

In this guide
A product page shows several options, but selecting one reveals no price or an unexpected stock state. Variable products need attention at the variation level, not just the parent description.
Decide which differences are variations
Use variations for options the customer genuinely needs to select, such as size or colour where appropriate. Distinct services with different delivery workflows may be clearer as separate products. Avoid generating combinations that the business does not actually sell.
Verify the details customers rely on
Review the price, availability, image and identifier for supported combinations. Decide whether stock belongs to the parent or individual variations under the configured product model. Labels should make unsupported options understandable rather than leave customers guessing.
- Test default and changed selections.
- Check unavailable combinations.
- Confirm price and currency in the cart.
- Review relevant variation images and descriptions.
- Verify stock behaviour with a controlled order.
Follow one option to the order
Choose a representative variation, add it to the cart and inspect the saved order details in a test environment. Staff should be able to identify exactly what the customer selected without returning to the current product page.
Keep maintenance practical
Large catalogues benefit from a controlled update process and a record of active options. Test import or bulk-edit changes on a sample first. A tidy product page cannot compensate for incorrect variation records underneath it.
